A few years ago, I was in a commercial role in a pressurised environment as a Sales Manager. Balancing the high expectations and demands in work with a young family, I simply forgot what I was good at. My confidence took an all-time dip leaving me feeling like I no longer had enough fuel in the tank to be effective in my role, make decisions and worryingly, lead my team well.
It’s a well-known fact that burned-out leaders struggle with making timely and confident decisions. Their lack of confidence can result in poor choices, missed opportunities, and decreased employee engagement and morale.
Realising the impact this was having on my team, the business, my family, and my own well-being, I knew I had to take action.
I knew I needed to ‘fix’ myself. This was the start of Helping Reach Potential as I embarked on coaching myself, seeking to regain clarity about my identity – my strengths, values, beliefs – and moving past the negative thoughts and self-talk that plagued my mind.
Only by identifying what I was good at and what I stood for was I able to pinpoint my purpose, align my behaviour and ultimately make choices that helped me move forward.
By identifying my strengths and values whilst shifting my beliefs, I was able to live a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life.
I hope that this starting point of identifying your values will help you on your path to clarity and become your North Star to guide you through stress and burn out.
